The first class air-conditioned coach of the New Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express was gutted in a fire on Monday morning. All the passengers in the coach were evacuated safely.

When the train was passing between Gahmar and Chausa stations, a ticket checker noticed that there was fire in the AC coach around 11.30 a.m. The train was immediately brought to a halt and all the passengers were removed to safety. No one was injured in the incident, a spokesperson of the East Central Railway told The Hindu.

It took the fire brigade about half an hour to douse the flames. Train services on the route were affected for nearly three hours.

The cause of fire is not yet known and the Railway authorities have instituted an inquiry into the incident.
